Decarbonisation Model Engineer

About Neutreeno

We built Neutreeno to transform business at speed and scale by revolutionising decarbonisation. Our innovative software, backed by cutting-edge science from the University of Cambridge, transforms how companies understand and reduce their emissions. By leveraging decades of research in resource and emissions flow data mapping, we identify the most impactful areas for emissions reduction, enabling companies to make strategic, data-driven decisions.
Working alongside leading sustainability scientists from the IPCC and IEA who shape international climate policy, we're creating a new paradigm in decarbonization technology. Our approach has already been adopted by the world's largest companies. With our recent $5M seed round led by US investors specializing in sustainability and circularity, and coverage in ESGPost, YahooFinance, BusinessWeekly, and a nomination for the Earthshot Award, we're ready to grow.

The Role

As a Decarbonisation Model Engineer specialising in emissions reduction, you'll sit at the forefront of industrial decarbonization. You’ll leverage your extensive experience to identify, evaluate, and implement transformative technologies that dramatically reduce carbon emissions across complex industries. Working across diverse sectors like jet engine production, electricity transmission, and EV battery manufacturing, you'll sit at the critical intersection of engineering, sustainability, economics, and data science. Your strategic insights will democratize decarbonization across global supply chains, building scalable low-carbon systems that have the potential to reshape industrial sustainability and drive meaningful climate innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the identification and assessment of Best Available Technologies (BAT) for emissions reduction across various industrial sectors
Maintain our library of low carbon technologies to stay up to date with the latest carbon solutions
Collaborate with our Climate Industry Process Engineer to develop our carbon costing model
Develop our comprehensive carbon pricing engine using the current carbon pricing landscape using different approaches (shadow pricing, taxation, etc.)
Build bottom-up models to scalable calculate bespoke decarbonisation levers for our clients across a wide range of industrial sectors from first principles taking into account cost, dependencies and implementation time
Stay at the forefront of emerging low-carbon technologies and industry trends, continuously updating our knowledge base
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall growth of our engineering capabilities
Represent Neutreeno at industry conferences and events, showcasing our innovative approaches to emissions reduction

Required Qualifications

Masters or PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of industry or research experience in techno-economic modelling, with a strong focus on energy/material efficiency and emissions reduction
Comprehensive knowledge of best practice technologies for carbon emissions reduction across multiple industries (e.g., manufacturing, energy, chemicals)
Proven track record in energy/material efficiency, economic and decarbonisation modelling with meaningful industrial impacts
Strong understanding of carbon accounting principles, life cycle assessment, and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, CBAM)
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively about complex engineering challenges
Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience with Python

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in energy research groups is desired
Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent
Familiarity with data integration and management practices
Knowledge of machine learning applications in process optimization and emissions reduction
Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS)
