Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, driven, and collaborative Engineer II to work on the development and optimization of Mori's patented reactor process to extract silk protein from a naturally produced feedstock. Responsibilities to include the following and are subject to change:

  • Technical expert for upstream process development with a focus on process optimization from lab to pilot scale including design, execution, and reporting on lab-scale experiments and transferring processes into pilot manufacturing
  • Execute and/or oversee experiments from screening, lab, and pilot scale
  • Contribute with a process development mindset on cross-functional tech transfer and product development teams
  • Author and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation at lab, pilot and manufacturing scale
  • Solve routine process and lab equipment problems through standard troubleshooting.
  • Conducting literature and patent research to support process and research development
  • Documentation of experiments and results in a lab notebook in a timely manner and in sufficient detail for replication
  • Manage upstream team with up to five full time employees

Compensation

  • Base salary range from $95,000 - $115,000 based on experience.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience, preferably in protein or food process development. Completed graduate degree in related discipline may substitute for years of experience.
  • Experience with lab scale reactors
  • Analytical laboratory and protein analysis experience preferred
  • Management experience in a research environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to be on your feet in a laboratory setting and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work flexible and off hours on an as needed basis
  • Proficiency with Design of Experiments (DoE), DoE software such as JMP, and other statistical data analysis methods a plus
